CLASSThe educational opportunities we provide for our members are supported by the Local 97 Trade Improvement Committee.

To sign up for a class or a training session, please call the 97 TIC office at 604-874-6010 {or, toll-free, at 1-866-562-2597}.

Although we schedule others based on requests from employers and demand from 97 members, our most common courses are the following.

Level 1 First Aid

The cost of this course will be reimbursed following successful completion of the class and submission of payment receipt. We will also happily cover renewals.

WHMIS {Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System} Online

This course can be completed from home. If you don’t have a computer at your residence, we can set you up with a terminal at the hall.

CSTS {Construction Safety Training System} Online

This is also a web-based offering. The course typically takes 6.5 hours to complete.

CWB {Canadian Welding Bureau} Initial Certification Requirements

Two years at JIW, five years as a member of Local 97, or Registered Apprentice with Level 2 upgrade completed. If you need to practice, welding booths are available at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the Local 97 hall.

CWB Check Test Requirements

Member of Local 97 for two years. Worked 500 hours over previous two years {ticket duration}.

Provincial Instructor Diploma

ZOOMBOOMWe offer 50% reimbursement upon successful completion of this program.

Fall Protection

Accepted by all Local 97 Signatory Contractors. Valid in BC. Theory and practice. Eight hours.

Confined Space Awareness

Online. Two hours.

Aerial Work Platform

Theory and practice. Eight hours.

Counterbalanced Forklift

Theory and practice. Eight hours.


Leavitt-based zoom boom training. Theory and practice. Eight hours.

Foreman Course

This program is offered whenever there is sufficient demand, and it involves 24 hours of instruction. Please call the TIC office to get your name on the list.
