It’s been a busy week on the Temporary Foreign Worker file. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre started the TFW discussion by calling for the program to be abolished. Only a day later, BC Premier David Eby spurred the news coverage further by saying he too would like to see the program scrapped or meaningfully reformed.

As a leader on this issue, Ironworkers Local 97 business manager was once again called upon to share his expertise.

“This wasn’t about a skilled worker shortage. This was about wage suppression…cheap labour,” said Parton to Bennett on CKNW. “It undercut the value of the TFW, it treated them less than Canadian. It undervalued and it cut the knees out from apprenticeship systems because now you’ve lowered the wages and the future didn’t look as bright as it should’ve.”
